Default 100 gr vs 105 gr

Trying to decide between sierra 100 gr gk's and 105 gr speer spitzers in my 6mm-06. Both shoot well with imr4831 and shots could be 300+ yds. I've got a couple boxes of both. I've had great luck with gk's in my .243. Anybody tried speer's on deer, that is the unknown here for me? Does anybody think5 grains will make a differerence at 300-400 yds?

I just put up 2 tripods and some long shots are likely.

gobbler, I do not think 5 grains is going to make any difference. If you have confidence in the GKs then use them.

From my limited experiences, the GameKings are a little softer and have better power transfer. But I really don’t think there will be enough difference to worry about.

i agree with bronko 5gr wont make much difference, you might watch for bullet blow up because the velocities are increased over a .243, especially at close range

It's NOT the 5 grains you have to worry about... They are two different brands of bullet, and are made differently inside... I mean the jackets are different so they will not perforn the same on impact.

Too many people worry about the weight of a bullet, when instead it's the "construction" of the bullet that counts!

I've shot both of those bullets many years ago in my .243, and went to 100 grain Nosler partitions because they easily out performed both of them on deer.

RR, I won't shoot near as far as you do. Probably no more than 300-400,but maybe as few as 50 yds. The Tri-pods are about 150 yds from the river and it is about 350 yds across the wheat field.

DM, Are you saying the speers are more heavily constructed. The only speer's I've used are 70 gr hp's are coyotes and bobcats (very explosive in 243) and 220 gr hot cores in my whelen.

I may not even use my 6mm-06. Might stay with the .243 w/ 100 gr gks and H414 or the 7mm mag w/ 139 gr interbonds. Too many decisions. The 6mm-06 is the most accurate, but very heavy. The .243 is the gun I am most confident with, but on the small side for big deer at long ranges. The 7mm mag has the best glass, but I hate recoil. I have ruled out the 25-308, 308, and whelen for this situation.
