I was wondering if anyone out there loads forNed Roberts pet round. I just recently bought a ruger 77 in a .257. I shot a 3 five shot group with factory rounds got about 1 1/2 groups at a 100 yards. Not to bad, but figured i could do better with reloads. I'm gonna start out with 115gr nosler bt, but was wondering what powder to use? I have plenty ofIMR 4350, but thought that might be a bit to slow burning. Any ideas?

The standard load for the Mrs M70 in 257 Roberts has always been 120 gr Sierra HPBT behind 47.0 gr of R-22. That loaddoes just over 2800fps and is a killing machine. I also worked up a load using Nosler's 110gr Accubond with 40.0gr of IMR-4350 seated at 2.825" and it shoots well. I am quite pleased with using the slower powders in the Roberts.

I achieved over 2900 fps with a Hornady 117 gr. BTSP with 49.0 gr. H4831, Winchester brass, & Federal 210 primer. The gun was a Remington 700 Classic Stainless with a 22" barrel. This produced 1/2" three shot groups. I also used RL19 but did not reach the velocity I wanted before seeing pressure signs.

Definitely try the hornady 117gr btsp interbonds. In my 25-06 i was messing around with all the expensive bullets (barnes,nosler) and none of them shot well so i went to hornady and my first three shots were under half an inch. I'd try it on IMR 4831, H4350, RL-19, RL-22.

My .257 Rob likes Hornady also. I settled on the 100gr. interloc using IMR 4831.

I agree with Ridge Runner. I just went out to verify my gun for this years hunting and my 3 shot group was .75" with 2 being in one hole. I love the performance of the Accubond on Whitetail. I have never tracked a deer since switching from Sierra Gamekings. The Accubond might be expensive but I think they are worth it.

Is it a long or short action. My 700 ADL is short action and forces you to seat the heavier (117-120gr) bullets rather deep, I have a m98 that is currently a 30-06 that I've been considering rebarreling for the Bob. I have had excellent accuracy with the 100 and 117 Gr Hornady Interloks sitting on top of I4350 don't recall the charge weight though. I have a sweet varmint load using 75 gr Hornady Vmax and HP's sitting on top of 47.8 gr of H380.

This is a fine old round that never really took off. And if I wasn't a lefty I would probably have one. I think any one using this chambering doen't need to be concerned about the newer rounds like the 260, 7-08, etc. I would consider it an excellent deer, antelope round.

I know the Ruger is the long action. I have an M77 and I gave my brother-in-law a couple shells and they are too long to fit in his Browning A-bolt. They grouped good when fed single shot but will not fit in the magazine well. I guess I am the only one who will enjoy my pet load.
