reloading problem???
Hello all I have been loading some hornady 165 grain btsp's in my 30-06 and noticed sometimes the bolt wont close with certain rounds and perfectly with others the OAL is the same on all the cartridges I suspect the ogive is different on the ones that the bolt wont close on. Is this a correct assumtion??
Thank you. |
RE: reloading problem???
I don't think the problem is the bullets. Are you using brass that was fired in another gun? Are you full length resizing? Are all the brass trimmed to the same length? Is your full length re-sizing die properly adjusted? It might be only partialy re-sizing causing a little hang up at the base of the shell which haden't been re-sized.

RE: reloading problem???
Smoke the casing and you will soon find out where your problem is. Even if the bullet is in the lands the bolt will still close. The lands will push the bullet into the case far enough for the bolt to close. Some reloaders even load their shells so that the lands finish the seating on the bullet. Tom.

I would also carefully check the cases that are not loading. May have a slight buckle preventing it from chambering.

RE: reloading problem???
Sounds like a sizing die not adjusted right ,but not knowing all the particulars that would only be a place to start .

I guess I go along with Big Guy The first question I would ask are you neck sizing or full length resizing? If you are neck sizing has the brass been shot in your rifle? Check a few pieces of brass by droppingit in the chamber and see if the bolt will close easily... Another thought are you distorting the neck of the nully loaded shell? Hope you find the problem |
