.35 cal round nose
has anyone loaded corelokt 200gr for the .350 mag or the hornady round nose? if so would you be willing to share your recipe

RE: .35 cal round nose
I don't remember the load, but i do remember the 200 grain Rem. and Hornandy bullets were too soft on moose, so i soon quit them. Of course, that was long ago, and they may have changed the jacket thickness by now?

RE: .35 cal round nose
I picked up some sierra gk 200 grs the other day and they pretty well out of my 35 whelen. I was using 2460, but I also like R15 in the whelen.

RE: .35 cal round nose
huh. we have killed three moose just in the last 8 years (permit only here) all w/ a 350 mag and just a 200gr corlkt psp and they all dropped in their tracks. 32lbs 12lb and 88lbs nt giants but big enugh t draw a cnclusion off of. one was quartering twards us and brke the shoulder and exited one was butt of the ear and exited and the other was just abouve the shoulder and exited. i know it isnt a debate about the 350 mag itself so was it hornadys on all occasions? what did you or have you switched to in your 350's for a bullet

BUT, the best fix i did, was to dump the 35cal. and go to an .338-06... Keep in mind i was working toward a rifle to hunt big bears with, so i EXPECTED no failures in my bullets. I shot a lot of big game and did a lot of bullet testing and the 33's out performed the 35's... (i was hunting brown bears regularly) This was long ago, and there arebetter choises in 35 cal. bulletstoday. If i was hunting moose or big bears today with an 350 mag., i'd be useing Nosler partitions in it. DM |
RE: .35 cal round nose
lol yea my key board has been acting up latley. the 'nine' key doesnt always work and i dont really re-read what i type before sending lol
anyhow, thanks for sharing your experiances. i use my 350mag religously up here in these thick woods and have had no wounded animals. all bang flop dead. as far as out performing the 35's go, i dont think i would ever notic an accuracy issue as i shoot all open sights and the guns can shoot way better then i can and i like the mid to high 2600ish velocities for the corelokt bullets and the barnes that i send through my 350. |
RE: .35 cal round nose
Of all the round nose 200gr bullets the rem corelokt is the toughest and yet the easiest to expand at low velocities. All the 200RN's were made for the 35rem and its oridgenal 2110fps to 2140fps for some longer barrels.
I shoot them at 2200fps from a 35rem and they will take more velocity the that. How everI shoot the 200gr PSP CoreLokt and the 200gr Hornady Spire Point from a 358win and they work great on deer, but would not use them on anything larger than deer. For black bear, elk, and moose I use the 225gr partiton. It expands fast and still maintains 60-70% of its weight to punch very deep if not 100% and out the other side. |
RE: .35 cal round nose
