308 Win, Rem SPS Varmit loads

I just got a Remingtion 700 SPS, 26in barrel. I wanted to work up a load that will work on both deer and elk here in NE Montana. I was thinking a 168 grain bullet. I think the twist rate is 1-12. Any suggestions would be great! I look forward to hearing from you all.

Them some pretty big varmits y'all got out there in Montana....deer and elk, lol.

You'll have better luck with a 150 in that twist and velocity range, make it a TSX...........

Excuse my limited knowledge, still learning reloading and and other things. What is a TSX?

TSX is just shortfor a bullet called the barnes tripple shock x-bulletor just TSX.
Cabelas has this bullet in many different weights in .308
Or MidwayUSA has it too.
Good Luck

YEAH... I wouldn't want to shoot TSX's at varmints, unless you have a unlimited bank account !!! If your just shooting varmints, coyotes, dogs, and whatever else manages to strolle in then shoot something like Sierra's...they will more than accurate enough,.... for big game..hard to beat good old Nosler Partitions !! The only other would be the unleaded X-bullets...Heck, the 150 grainer will penetrate right through anything you'd care to shoot...the extra velocity helps make it shoot a little flatter also...150's are all you'll ever need.

I dont plan to really do to much varmit shooting at this point, I plan to bag Elk, Deer, and a antelope! But I wanted to know if you all thought 150grn bullet would be ok for elk, I think that a 168 or 165 grain would bridge the gap and provide a good all around that would do the job.
