IMR 4831 Vs H 4831
 

Is there a big difference betweent he two powders? I was told by someone at the range that they are interchangable. Has anyone switched from one to the other and found better accuracy?

I have tried them both and work the load back up to make sure they are safe, but didn't see a whole lot of difference besides the nice powder throw with the SC stuff. When I use 4831, I always grab SC stuff just for that reason. I now have some IMR4831 new unopened I have had for several years. I probably will work up a load with it soon and try to burn it off.

IMR 4831is a bit faster than H4831...

As with any component change, a work up is best practice.

For that reason, I'd not consider them interchangable by pure definition........

They didn't have the H4831 so just ended up getting the IMR 4831. I've been using the IMR the whole time.

H4831 is supposedly more temp stable, but I've never had a problem with IMR4831 from summer to winter.

There IS adifference; H4831 is signficantly slower, much like Norma MRP or RE22, whereas IMR 4831 is much closer to IMR 4350 than to H4831, RE22 or MRP. This becomes important in the larger cases especially. I wouldn't call thenm interchangeable by any means!!

For whatever reason I always get better accuracy out of all of my firearms with the "H" powders..maybe it's a mental thing but the target always show just better accuracy the the "H"'s..I also use H-4350 for just about everthing over .25's, especially the magnums...

This has been my experience too... They do NOT interchange...
