200gr Sierra Gameking ...

anyone have any experience with these. I am thinking about trying them out in my 300 Ultra mag.

I have shot the bullet in a few different rifles.

A 30-06 Remington Pump rifle(carbine model).

A Remington 700PSS is 300 Win Mag.

A Remington 700 LSS in 300 Ultra Mag.

The bullet is devastating on game, and I have had some unbelievable accuracy with it. Especially in the 700PSS. IMO the bullet is every bit as good as any of the high end-expensive bullets, without the high price. I can not imagine what a more expensive bullet could do(other than being a solid). And the bullet has fantastic down range capability. It is probably one of the best 30 caliber bullets ever made.Tom.

I tried them in my 300RUM's, and accuracy was awesome, but they won't hold up that good on big game. I have seen others shoot moose, and they fall apart fairly easy. I know I wouldn't take them on a moose or elk trip.

Great bullet, accurate with great downrange ballistics. I would suggest keeping it at 300 winmag velocities though. Wasn't designed for the barn burner super duper magnums.

They work quite well in standard cartridges like the .30/'06. But they might be on the frangible side for .300 Ultra-Mag. velocities. I'd use the 200-grain Nosler Partition in that round.

I am not knocking(or even arguing) the comments above about the 200 Grain Sierra not being constructed heavily. But I do find it ironic that some posters(not you guy's) try to defend the 243 or the 25-06 as an elk cartridge. But then a 200 grain Sierra bullet would some how be inadequate?? If the bullet lost 1/2 of its weight it would still be as heavy as a 243 100 grain bullet??

I may be wrong but I can not see an elk walking(very far) away from a good hit with the 200 grain Sierra bullet, especially at 300 Ultra Mag velocities. I may be wrong, but I just can not see it. Tom.

Well, your right, if you hit a moose or elk right square in boiler room with it, its going to die. I have just seen moose hit with 200gr gamekings and fall apart on thier shoulder. This was shot with a 300RUM at 300 yards. The followup shot got him. Just wasn't impressed with the 200gr gameking terminal performance.

If you had a TSX, guaranteed it woudl have went thru the shoulder and maybe thru the other one.

I used partitions and the functioned flawlessly up in moose country.

thanks for all the advise guys. I think I am going to buy a box of Sierra's to have on hand but when it comes to moose or bear I will go with something a bit tougher.

well I ordered a box of the 200gr gamekings for the RUM and I also got a box of 180gr TSX's which will most likely be my main load. Hands down the Barnes bulles are awesome but for the price of the gamekings its worth giving them a try too. thats the fun of reloading!!!
