RE: .280 Ackley Improved
Ridge Runner,
I went to two stores this past weeked and they were both out of the Reloader-22 and Reloader-19. I am going to try one more store tomorrow and see if they have it. I have also been told that IMR 4350 is a great powder for the .280Rem. |
RE: .280 Ackley Improved
I've had great accuracy with several powder/load combinations with my .280AI. I've used IMR 4831, H4831, RL-22, and VV N165. I use IMR 4895 for my fire-form loads. They've all worked well.

RE: .280 Ackley Improved
Well I went to the range today and tried out several different loadings. The range conditions were less than desirable with winds in the 10-15mph range with gust in the mid 20's. It did shorten the wait inbetween groups though:D. I found that the gun prefers that I have the bullets seated out past the 3.330" mark. I seated to 3.345" OAL. The best group with the 168gr Sierra Match Kings was .522" (measuring center to center). Best group with the 139gr Hornady SST was .755" and the 150gr Noslers were .802". The factory .280 Rem were the Federals with the 140gr Barnes TSX. They shot surprisingly well at .486.
All groups were fired at 100yds in the prone using a Caldwell Rock steady rest. I am pretty pleased with this new Rifle and I am looking forward to dialing it in even more. Thank you all for your help. |
