.243 Load Question
PS - I have a reload question on the .243 that maybe you can answer.
My Savage Mod. 11 doesn't shoot H 414 that well. Using 100 gr Sierra Game Kings groups with this gun are about 50% better with IMR 4350 Vs H414. Naturally I'd like to use the IMR 4350 w/ 70 gr. bullets to if I I can tighten my groups which are about 1- to 1 1'5 Vs. half that w/ 4350. I realize that bullet weight, length etc can be a major factor but the 100 gr. loads are better with the IMR so maybe would the 70 gr. be too. My Hodgon '07 manual doesn't even list the IMR 4350 power until it lists 85 gr. or heavier bullets. My older Speer No. 9 manual gives loads for a 75 gr. hollow pt. w/ IMR 4350 ranging from 43 to a max 47 gr. power charge. What do yo think would be a safe power charge range if I were to try the 4350 power w/ a 70 gr. Blitz King even though I can't find a published load for this power / bullet.? I note that the mid-range power charges listed decreaseby about 0.5 gr. as bullet weight increases 5 grains. Therefore I'm thinking bout starting off w/ 45.5 gr. IMR 4350 and move up in 1/2 gr . increments to 47.5 gr. Please advise. Thanks |
