RE: What' s your fav. plastic tip?
Anyone try a SST on an Elk? Wondering if they perform ok. Here in WA you can only shoot spike Elk with the general season unless you draw a special tag so a good BT might work pretty good out of my 7mm RM.

Power, check out the Hornady Interbond, it is available in 139 and 154Gr for .284. Sounds like a step above the SST in construction, etc. www.hornady.com

RE: What' s your fav. plastic tip?
Thanks Skeeter. I' ve looked at them and they seem pretty good. I' m a little leary after dropping the cash for those Scirocco' s that are near-too long to fit in my magazine and don' t perform that well on deer size game. If you get some please let me know how they perform. For deer I think a Bal. Tip from Nosler or the Hornady SST is your best option. For Elk or larger you need better bullets, unless you can always count on a heart/neck/spine shot.

[email protected] You can PayPal me at that address and if you email me I' ll tell you my phone number in case you have any questions. |
RE: What' s your fav. plastic tip?
sooner shooter-I don' t have a lot left and since I live in canada it would be a hassle to try to send them across the border.

RE: What' s your fav. plastic tip?
I have shot Nosler Ballistic tips in my 250-3000 for years. I use 100 grain for this rifle. They have performed very well on Mule Deer. They are however best used for long range shooting. At close range, they are to fragil and I have seen them blow up bad in the 7mm Mags at close range. I have been going more and more to the Barnes X bullet. You can go a wt or two lighter for more velocity and not give up penetration. Instead of 150 gr. in the 06, I now use 130 X bullets. They still exit a deer at almost any range. I am shooting them at about 3250 fps. The coated ones will scoot along at close to 3400 fps.
