bullet seating?
Im doing some reloading for my ar15(.223) and im not sure how deep to seat my bullet.I bought a box of remington UMC 223 FMJ andused my caliper on them. They measured 2.228 2.228 2.230 2.233 of an inch. (over all length of the cartridge) Those were just four randomcartridges in the box. I wanted to know atwhat length you ar15 shooters are keeping yourcartridges? Keep in mind i would like to shoot the 55 grain VMAX from hornady. Also i want to know how your cartridgesfeedfromyour mags. [/align] |
RE: bullet seating?
O A L depends a lot on the ogive of the bullets, not so much as the tip
of the bullet..You need an comparator tool ,to measure this.. |
RE: bullet seating?
As long as it will chamber and cycle reliably, seat the bullet out as far as possible and still fit in the magazine. TheVmax's tend to have an ogive that is a little further forward so make sure it will chamber.

RE: bullet seating?
The Hornady Loading manual will give their recommended C.O.L. for any Hornady bullet and load listed. Just go to your local gun shop find a Hornady Manual and look up the COL for the caliber and specific bullet you're using.

RE: bullet seating?
My Hornady 7th edition does not even list the 55 gr for their223 Remington Service rifle data. They list the OAL at 2.250" They start with a 68gr BTHP and go to 75 gr #22792 A-Max and a 75 gr # 2279 BTHP. The list their regular 223 at 2.260" AOL.
