Are the bore snake really good for cleaning or is it better to stay with

I love mine. I still use the rods, brush and solvent to get the initial crud off, but after that I'll only run one or two patches down the bore and finish it off with the snake.

I use bore snakes all the time. Bore snakes are good for a quick clean but will not replace the cleaning rod , brushes, jag and patches for a thorough cleaning...

Ditto to above. Good for quick cleans or field cleans but will not replace a good conventional cleaning to remove copper fouling. I use a Hoppes for my wife's semi 22 and it works great.

I love bore snakes, I always use them after a thorough cleaning with patches and solvent, as mentioned above.

Dissapointed in them if you ask me. I largely prefer to clean with a rod and patch. Even in the field i usually carry a break down rod.

I'll put a 4th "amen" on the fact that they are great for finish up work.

I didn't buy that actual bore snake brand (assuming that's the brand name)...just a generic one. I only have one for my 44 pistol (I'll admit to using in on my 41 as well) and it's great great great for "spit-shinin'" the barrel. I really want to get one for all my 12 guages...but without rifling they're not all that hard get nice and shiny.
