RE: .223 vs whitetail
The 60 grain Nosler Partition is a good choice, if you choose to hunt with a 223 Remington. The cartridge and bullet is adequate to kill a deer. IMO it is marginal, but still effective. The 75 grain A-Max looks like it would also be a good choice.
I have shot several deer with the 60 grain Partition, but I have never recovered the bullet. But the deer made their normal 50-60 yard death run, and fell over dead. I will try shooting one this year with my new 22-250 and the 75 grain A-Max. Tom.

darbz18 go for it just practice good shot placement.
I have been using the .22 centerfires (hornet, 222, 223, 22-250)
with hornady45 gr to 55 gr sx bullets (the so called varmit bullets)
for 20 years and never had one go more than about 15 yards from point of impact.
(EVEN IF YOU HIT THE SHOULDER)IMO Head, neck, orBROAD side chest cavity
are the best shots for least amount of meat destruction (ANYshoulder hit is a
major waste of meat with the .22 center fires.) (NOTE the bruising in the pics.)
About 8 members ina club I was in (were 270 and 30-06 fans) til they
saw thedamageI was doing with the .22's now they shoot .22's. lol
here are some pics of one I took with my hornet broad side at 165 yards
WARNING GRAPHIC PICS
first pic is the entrance, second is the exit, jacket from the bullet was just under the
skin on exit side.
hand load 12.4 grains (296 win) 45 grain (hornady)(so calledvarmit)bullet 3000 fps

If you can wait for good shots & possibly pass on a deer because conditions weren't "right"

if thats a problem barnes, then your right you shouldn't use it. when you get to the point that the opprotunity to be in the woods, enjoying all nature has to offer outweighs just killing a deer maybe you'll understand.

RE: .223 vs whitetail
Barnes, the 223 sure isn't a brush gun. No hot .22 is cause they are likely gonna blow up on first impact with anything. Something heavier and slower would give you better chance but I suspect you already know what works best for you.

Hey
Even if you hit the shoulder bone they go through and do the same
amount of damage, 1-2 inches of penatration then massive destruction.
If you have shot a fox or yote with them them you know what they do
(about rip em in half)
JUST HAVE TOTHINK ABOUTTHAT (DAMAGE) INTRENALY ON DEER
CAUSE YOU CAN'T SEE IT EXTERNALY.
