Default They shoot!!

Finally had nice enough weather to go shoot my 1st batch of reloads.Pulled the trigger on the 1st one and was like...It went off, cool.
Anyway finally ended up with a 3 shot 1/4 in group at 100yds,I don't think thats to bad for a Marlin 45/70.

Right on, good job. The first batch will either make you or break you on reloading. Good to hear that it was a success story.

Well glad to see you had good luck with your first reloading attempt. And by the way - please post that magical load that shot a 1/4" group out of your Marlin. I've been loading for my Guide Gun for years and can't get nowhere near that accuracy. Only 1 - 1 1/2" at best. And that's on a really good day.

How do you shoot a .25" group using .45" diameter bullets? I call that remarkable.

Pavomesa - It is possible as group size is measured center to center. My method is to measure the outside edges of the bullet holes and then subtract one bullet diameter. In this case, to achieve a .25" group with a 45-70 the group would have had to measure a total of 0.708" less .458" = .25". To say that this is remarkable accuracy at 100 yds out of a Marlin lever action 45-70 is an understatement. These bullets would have almost had to have gone through the same hole.

Man!!! To hit a load combo that shoots that good on the first try is unbelievable..Particularly for a new reloader...with a 45/70.....
