22.250 BULLETS
I'm shooting a 22.250 and would like to know what bullet to reload thats not so explosive on fox and coyotes? I still would like to keep my muzzel velocity around 3800fps. I'm using varget powder right now but can always try something new.

RE: 22.250 BULLETS
At that velocity you're going to pay out the nose for a bullet that will stay together, I suspect. I'm assuming Nosler makes a 55 gr partition? Or can you get that velocity with 55 gr bullet? I doubt it.

RE: 22.250 BULLETS
55 grain barnes.
None of hte standard bullets are going to hold together at that velocity. I like the V Max and the Nosler BT but if you hit a fox under 200 yards the bullet is going to do the hollow point scatter and rip holes. |
RE: 22.250 BULLETS
The Barnes bullet would be the 55 grn. Triple Shock. Solid copper, should hold together.
Nosler makes a 60 grn partition. There is also a trophy bonded bear claw, I think it is 55 grains. You may be able to get a 55 grain bullet up to 3800 fps with the new H4007 powder. If your goal is to not blow up a fox, you probably should try to load it down. |
RE: 22.250 BULLETS
I think I would go with the 45 gr. Barn's X bullet at that
velocity.. |
RE: 22.250 BULLETS
Thanks guys! I'll try loading them down a little bit and maybe try a little heavier bullet.

RE: 22.250 BULLETS
i think you would be better off to go with a 45 to 50 grain bullet like the v-max, ballistic tip or the blitzking and load it down just a hair. i have shot coyotes at 15-20 yards and not had any pelt damage. but thats just the luck i have had with them. just bear in mind, i have never shot a fox, dont know how it will handle them.

RE: 22.250 BULLETS
What you are asking-IMO-is not possible. If you are concerned about pelt damage-do this. Try the 75 grain A-Max. Run it up to about 3100 fps. We are experimenting with this bullet. We have only shot a half dozen Yotes with this bullet, but so far no pelt damage.
What is the twist rate in your rifle?? These bullets may be difficult to stabilize in a slow twist. But every rifle is different. Tom. |
RE: 22.250 BULLETS
My rifle twist is 1 in 12, heavy barrel
