Price going to severly increase in 2008?
My dad was telling me about an article he read stating that "ammo" would skyrocket around the first of the 2008 year. Im sure that article was referring to factory ammo, but what about bullets for reloading? I know brass will continue go up, but do you all think about the bullets and powder? Should we all be stocking up for this year in the next couple weeks?

If everyone stocks up you will see the price go up.

Its already shot up in the last few months. At least 2%. Copper has doubled in price in the last few years. Brass has doubled. I can't say lead has.

I have heard lead has gone up too, but I don't remember by how much

I would think that prices will continue to go up until people stop buying the stuff. When the market has had about all that it can bear, then supplies will get backed up and the manufactures will know that the price has hit the wall and things need to be stabilized. Then prices will gradually go back down a bit until people start buying the supplies again. I would have thought that would have already happened with factory ammo, I mean how many boxes of ammo can you afford at $50 a box? Or even $30 for that matter? I know that I am sure glad that I got into reloading. It has made the price increases easier to handle for myself since I can still afford to shoot a bit more than I could have at factory ammo prices.

Reloading is getting bad. I just bought 1000 small rifle primers frmo Bass Pro two weeks ago, and paid about $33. for them, which is about $11. more than I expected to pay.

Actually - the price of factory ammo has gone down the last 12 months.
I bought Federals premium ammo- for my .300 Winchester Magnum and for my .270 Winchester Short magnums for $14 a box last year - over at Bob's Army and Navy and Grice Gun Shop, during their big sale and this year before hunting season they had it for $12 a box. The same ammo. Usually priced in other stores for $18 - 20 a box! The war and extremists are the people that are driving up the price of reloading components. |
RE: Price going to severly increase in 2008?
The cost of ammo isn't going up as much as the value of a dollar is going down and it's going to continue.
