25-06 and Ballistic tip's on game

Well I swore I'd never use the BT's again after a couple bad performances on mulies out of my 30-06, but my new 25-06 loves the 100 grainers over H4350 at 3400fps. I'm an Accubond and Interbond man but they just won't shoot in this setup. This will be my dedicated deer and lope load. I'm just a little worried about lack of penetration. I'll try and stay away from large bones but the perfect broadside, as we all know, doesn't always present itself.

If anyone has any field experience with the .257 100 grainers I would really appreciate the feedback.

Thanks, Brett

Try loading a Barnes TripleShock in either a 100gr BT or 115gr FB. Push either along with Hodgens H1000 and I'll be willing to beat that you will like the results. With Barnes solid copper bullet you won't have to worry about lack of penetration. The H1000 is the ideal powder for pushing a bullet out of the 25-06 case.

Your about to start a war with the ballistic tip fans.[again] My buddy used the same bullet in his 25-06 on deer and antelope and the meat damage was horendous.People are attracted to them as they are very accurate buttoo fragile under 100yardsfor me.....................Harold

That would be a good long range load, but I wouldn't like it under 150yds or so...at that velocity they'd surely break up easily on bone. Not saying it won't kill, but the damage to meat would likely be heavy. I personally haven't used the 100gr BT on deer. Regular soft points, such as core-lokt, do the job fine but I'm still a fan of the heavier 120s. My vote would be to save those loads for antelope, find something heavier and slower for deer.

I stay away from the B Ts in my 25-06 for the simple reason I lost a good buc one evening due to the lack of penetration, the thin skin jacket and low amount of lead didnt do the job!. I found the buc the next morning on the river bank about a half mile from were I shot it, still very much living, as it was getting up I shot it again with my 30-06 " 180gr B Ts" and it droped dead in its tracks. After retreiving it from the other side, I found both entrance holes within 1/4", until that shot I had always used 120gr PSPs and have gone back to them for the 25-06, but still use B Ts in my 30-06 and 300win mag. Over the summer Im going to start experimenting with the Barnes Tripple Shock, a few of my freinds have had good sucsesses with them this year.

I load for my son's Ruger 77 MKII 25-06 and he took a 3pt bull elk at over 400 yards with 54gr H4831SC/Win cases/Fed Mag primers under a 120HP Hornady. This took out a rib going in and took one with it exiting. Also Nosler Partition 115gr/RE22 54gr /Fed Mag primers and WIn brass is a killer. We used 100 Hornady's for one season on deer but found them too explosive1{killed fine but meat damage excessive]......Harold

I usually use Hornady btsp interlocks 120 gr. I had a Brownie A- bolt in 25-06 and used Winchester PXP (positive expanding point)bullets I really liked those .Wish I could get that projectile for all calibers.

Experience with the 100 BT out of the 25-06? Yes...but not on speed goats or deer. I keep a few loaded up for varmits. It's a great whistle pig combo. Aim at the seam between the pig and the rock they are sitting on and watch them rise to the sky. I've owned a 25 for 15 years, taken antelope (speed goats), mule deer and elk with it. But I don't use the BT for that and would recommend you try something else. I used the 117 Sierra for the first 10 years with IMR 4831, 4350 and H4831 and found all to work well with F210 primers. The last 4 or 5 years I've tried several different bullets. Barnes didn't work for me in this gun. Have you triedRL22 with Federal 210 GM primers and the 110 Accubonds? That's working well for me now It didn't seem to dial in with the 4831's. I'm loading 54.0 gr. Max OL is set 15/1000 off the lands @ 3.260 in my 700 Classic and shooting 5/8" groups. If you can get this bullet to shoot in your new gun I think you'll have allot more confidence in the load when it's time to shoot a deer of speed goat.

rbullom- Yeah, I have an Accubond load for the 25 but I haven't seen the velocity I'm lookin for. I seem to lose accuracy as soon as I pass 3100fps with most all powders. Brett
