25-06 and Ballistic tip's on game

RE: 25-06 and Ballistic tip's on game
When I've cranked the heavier bullet loads much higher I had pressure signs. The BC on the accubond is pretty good so even at the 3100 your're still looking pretty good at 3-4 hundred with sustained velocity and bullet drop. We haven't taken an elk with this load yet but did take a couple with 140 accubonds out of a 270 this year. I found one of themunder the skin in the opposite shoulder and weighed the bullet. It weighed right at 100 grains and leafedback like flower petals. Keep in mind that pushing the velocity too high causes severe meat damage at the closer distances. 3100 is really a good muzzle velocity for leaving something to eat when you done and getting good performance out of the bullet unless you can get the barnes or some other really high grade bullet like the lazzeroni's to shoot. Problem I've had with those in my hunting guns is the olgive makes the bullet so long I can feed them out of the magazine without seating them so deep it defeats the purpose of seating them right on the lands like a berger. The BT's at close range will break into pieces at close range if they hit bonewith the 3400fps.

Bring your metal detector to the table with you when you sit down to eat. They are one of the most accurate bullets out there, but the ballistic tips explode on game. I have found jacket fragments in the backstraps of deer when hit with the 25 06, the 300 and the 270 on heart/lung hits. Pick a big one to shoot, because there is gonna be a massive area of destruction.

I shoot alot of the 115's out of my 25 wssm at 3000 fps and theres not a better deer load around, out of 8 deer shot with them they all exited, shoulder shots, quartering away didn't matter it went through.

Most guys that I speak to say to use the 100 grain in the 25-06 yet other people including yourself use the 115 grainer. I think the heavier bullet is the way to go. Otherwise it's just a 6mm Rem mag with a 100 grain bullet and less SD. I'll have to try them ..right now I am using factory ammo in the one I just bought and it is doing fine but I have to handload this thing for next year.

I have used the Barnes 100gr XLCs with great results. They were pretty accurate but I am told the Triple shock is even better. I have yet to try them but am planing on loading them for my .280AI when it arrives.

Got to thinking about this post the other night, its been four or five years since my 25-06 has even been out of the safe!. I pulled it out last night and put a scope on it andbore sighted it, got finished in the shop early so I put up a target, sat down on the bench and fired off a few rounds. WOW, I forgot how fun this rifle was to shoot!, walked down to the target and found one hole, after aclose look, both shots were through the same hole, just a slight half moon on the top left side!. walked back to the bench, came up four inches and left one inch, shot another three shots, two were in the same hole and one up and to the left a quarter inch, theese shots were with Nosler100gr BTs, not too shabby!. I guess Ill have to keep the cob-webs off of it and start useing it agan.
