Reloading for my 270 Mannlicher Cshoenauer
 

I have a question about reloading information for my 270. Made in 1950. Would like to know wich bullet, powder and primer would work best for my270 Mannlicher Scoenauer? Isthe 130 or 150 grainbetter? Thank you for your help. Frank.

I once owned two Mannlicher-Schoenauer .270 carbines. I used the 130 and 150-grain Nosler Partition bullets in them, with 55.5 and 53.5 grains of IMR 4350 respectively. The 130-grain load chronographed 2880 FPS, and the 150 made 2820 FPS from both guns. Both had 20" barrels with 1/9" twist. Both shot into 1.25 MOA, and were very deadly little rifles. I would not feel handicapped having to use a .270 anywhere in North America, nor for non-dangerous game in Africa.

Frank, use a 130 for deer-size game, and the 150 Nosler Partition for elk, moose, bear, and African plains game. The Partition bullet is not necessary foer deer, but does a good job on them anyway! (WW brass, Federal 210 primers!)

depends to some extent what you are hunting and the ranges you are hunting at. Either will work fine in most 270's but the 130 grain has a better ballistic coefficient, so will shoot flatter. However if you have a long throat on the manlicher, you may be better off accuracy wise with the 150. Play with several different brands and see which one shoots tighter. Remember to clean the barrel after any given load to ensure best accuracy.
I have had good luck with the all copper Barnes bullets. They have yet a better ballistic coefficient and sectional density than traditional lead/copper bullets.

SOME 130's will have a higher B.C. than SOME 150's. But if their form factors are equal, then the 150 will have the higher B.C. because the sectional density divided by the coeeficient of form is what results in the B.C. number.

There are few .270 bullets that have as high a ballistic coefficient as the Sierra 150-grain PSPBT - maybe one of the VLD's does. I am not conversant with the Berger line....... NOPE!! Berger doesn't make any .270 or 7mm bullets!
