new 22-250 need loading tips
So I got this new Savage Varmint rifle not the 110 as stated befor in 22-250 and want to do some reloading for it..I have plenty of brass for it..Are Hornany V Max or Nosler Ballistic Tips a good choice to start for varmints? This time of year the targets will most likely be crows out to 4oo yards...What is a good powder to start with in it...Not sure what I have out there..Varget-4064-H 110- etc...I have Magmun and regular primers..Thanks for any advice you have to offer me...John DoLittle And I know the twist is 1 in 14 because I checked it last night..

RE: new 22-250
22-250 is pretty forgiving to the handloader. I'm at school and don't have my books with me...but Varget is very popular, H-380 (hodgdons) was named because the develper/owner's pet load was 38.0gr of H-380 for the 22-250. There are probably a dozen or more powders out there that could be agreed upon as EXCELLENT powders to use in the 22-250. As far as bullets I'd find the cheapest thing that's accurate for crow and paper. Regardless of what that bullet does when it hits the 22-250 could kill a crow 10 times over. No need for magnum primers, but I suppose if you find a recipe using them then give 'em a try.
There's A LOT of websites out there about loading the 22-250...type something in google and your bound to have all sorts of recipes, just be very careful with online unpublished data. |

RE: new 22-250
What is the twist rate of your barrel.
I am getting ready to start reloading for a 22-250 I am having rebarreled to 1in8 twist. I am hoping to be able to stabilize, and accurately shoot the Hornady 75 grain A-Max. I am going to start out with H-414. It looks good on paper. I hope it works in the rifle. Tom. |

RE: new 22-250
Try 4064..somewhere around the 38-39 gr range.

RE: new 22-250
Give a 50 gr Sierra Blitzking seated on top of 36 grains of RL-15 and a CCI 200 primer a shot. I have a Savage 12FV that just loves that load, super accurate for me. H-380 and Varget are also good powders as many will attest.
