100 gr Sierra gamekings for me as well. Not fancy and flashy, but very effective.

I use 100 gr. Remington Express PSP Core Lokt's. Cheap. Effective. Accurate. Haven't lost a deer yet.

We use the 80gr ballistic tips. They are awesome. I know that seems light, and I was dead against going below 90 and was using 100's at the time a friend that has used a .243 for over 20yrs said, go to 80's or 85gr Hollowpoints for deer.

Well, I am a ballistic tip man so finally I tried them in my sons .243 Rem. Mod. 700. The results were devastating to say the least. He has since killed a truckload of deer and only one deer, a 3yr old buck soaked it up and stayed on it's feet. It only made it 60yds. I have seen him shoot deer over 140 lbs and actually roll it over TWICE...yes, twice!

I load them for my Encore barrel but a totally different powder. He and my daughter have taken deer with it. All again devistation. I personally have not taken a deer with a rifle in many years. Trophy hunting where few trophys exist is tough on the trigger finger. I do intend to shoot a doe next week, but don't know if it will be the .243 that gets called up from the bullpen or my new 270WSM. The WSM needs initiated and I told the kids it was gonna be me that did it.

Oh, by the way, long story short....I use 80gr Ballistic Tips!!!

They come in 100ct boxes and cost a little less as well.
If you need a starting point, I have found that Varget and H414 are excellent choices for the lighter bullet in the .243.

95gr Combined Technology BTs is what I use. The results are always a bang flop on big (200-250lb deer).

For Varmints I use 60gr Sierra HPs loaded to max velocity. They do not leave an exit wound on coyotes, so they are very fur friendly.

85 gr. HPBT shot very well in some of my older 243's. Although I personally never shot deer with them, they sure pink-sprayed groundhogs. Seems to me a lot of folks on here have had great success with them on deer, however..
