270 win mag?

has anyone here done or know someone that has done this? by necking down the 300 win mag or 338 win mag? what are the differences in the 300/338 win mag? other than just the neck size?

Just buy a 270 Weatherby Mag.
Or buy a 270WSM anything much beyond that is pretty much over bore.

Why bother when the 7mmremmag will do anything that the same case with a .277" bullet will do.

You'd only be duplicating a cartridge that already exists AKA .270 Weatherby...............Harold No better no worse!

if the 300 wm and the 338 wm case are the same with the exception of neck size, then why is there a 30-338win wildcat?

true statement stubb!!! Dont know why anyone would want to go through rechambering, retooling etc, when the 7 MAG is on the same level if not better with components readily available.

Ridge Runner-

264wm/7rm/338wm are actually a bit shorter than the 'ol 300winny.

PreacherBoy:

If you handload, you could load your own Weatherby ammo.:):) Good luck.

The 30-338 is a 1000 yard target cartridge ,so close the the .308 Norma Magnum that the data is interchangeable.I use .338 brass for my .308 Norma mag and the end result is slightly shorter necks til they stretch out .Like using 30-06 brass to make .270 The 300Win Mag has a very short neck while the 30-338 and .308 NM has a longer neck ballistics are all very close.....................Reinventing the wheel and the .308 NM wasmade first! RE: 270 win mag?

i had a 270 custom made with the 300 win mag case the problem i had was that i had to reload all the time. if you look at a 257 weatherby shell, its pretty much the same thing but smaller bullet and you can buy brass all ready to reload istead of turning necks and alot more case work.
