Reloading help

I'm looking for a reloader to load precision rifle rounds for competition and one that is also progressive to load mass rounds of 223 and pistol rounds. Can anyone help with advice.

IMO , if you want to load for competition , you should get a single stage pressand competition dies,I know that progressives make good rounds ( I have several ) but for the precision you will want for competition , the single stage is the way to go. You kinda get the feel of whats going on with that particular function , be it sizing or seating a bullet . You feel it , with a progressive you are doing a lot of things at the same time . Don't get me wrong there are good progressives out there and can load good ammo , but I believe loading for competition is some thing else .As far as progressives if thats what you want , Dillon is good and there are a bunch of others.

Most of the bench rest guys I know, wouldn't even consider a progressive for their competition ammo. I have a good friend that competes in high power, and he uses the same ten cases over and over until they show signs of wear/ lose weight. Most use high end sinlge stage presses at the bench while they compete. Pistol competition is another thing, the object there is volume over accuracy, so a progressive is just the thing.

I would consider Dillon RL550b. Alot of AR comp shooters I knows like it. Very consistent. If you got the money you can go up to 1000 dollars pretty quick iwth dillion.

If you are a new reloader, or have limited experience with reloading, I highly suggest you learn on a single stage first. Get down the fundimentals. IMO, none of the progressives are for beginners. I know with teh one I have, if I didn't have my single stage experience for 10 years, it would have been a disaster going straight to a progressive.

I agree, precision rounds and a progressive reloader is an oxymoron. I have never heard of anyone trying to develope precision loads in a progressive reloader.

I mean no offense, but you obviously do not know too many comp shooters. All of em I know has both a single stage and a dillion.

I pulled some pistol bullets that had been done on a progressive, must have been an older one cause I had some 158's loaded with same weight powder as lighter bullets with same powder.May have been a fluke but I'm only trusting my own current loads.I like my single stage press, just the time it takes to dump powder with digital scales can be a pain with fan or temp changes, they are sensitive trying to do small weight for handguns!

I would agrea with bigcountry, if you are new to reloading start off with a single stage, after a couple of years, or when you can reload in your sleep" not recomended",go ahead and get the progressive " Dillon is my only recomendation". Haveing both wont hurt in the least bit, if you ever decide to go big bore the single stage will handle the resizeing better than the progressive press will, it also is easier to work up a load with a single stage press then produce the rounds on the progressive.

No offence taken:)and you are correct, I do not know a wealth of comp shooters it is just the ones I do know are so exact in every aspect of their reloading you will never catch them progressive reloading. They weigh and measure every bullet and case, they hand weigh every powder load and hand primer every case, I just don't know any comp shooters that load comp bullets progressively.

Like I said, I don't mean to sound rude. Its usally theDCM or AR-15 guys who progressive load. All the Bench shooters usually single stage. Two different types I guess.DCM seem to be much higher volumn.
