I am looking to buy a gun rest. I just got my .270 and I am looking to start shooting.

I dont see myself living at the range (not that - that is a bad idea) but I want to buy something nice.

I am also looking to start reloading as well. Not sure when but I have the interest. Someone on here stated that there is nothing like dropping a deer with a bullet that you built.

I see that there are sands bags, plastic rests, outers varminter "swivel" type deal, there are ones that the gun clamps.

Can someone please tell me the pros and cons of the different types.

I shot for more years than I care to admitt and tryed every rest on the market and the best by far in my book is 'Uncle Buds Bull Bags&quot;! They have differnt sizes and I have the large one that gives you a steady rest and reduces felt recoil when shooting the &quot;big boys&quot;. what is the difference between the bull bags and the udder bags?

The bull bags or Hoppes expert setup .work fine for us . The outers varmiter is to unstable in my opinion . There are quite a few different setups that will work ,but the varmiter I would not recommend .I have one and its never taken out to the range .

I have an Outer's Varminter also. I lump it in with many of my other &quot;good idea in theory&quot; purchases. I think that it's intended for lighter varmint rifles (hence the name I guess). I've tried mine with my 270 and felt that it was fair, at best. I doubt that I'll use it for benchrest shooting with anything other than a 22 or 22-250.

I also own a &quot;Uncle Bud's Bulls Bag&quot; it works very well. Good luck.

I considered the Sinclair front rest because it is really, really nice, but I didn't want to spend that much money. Instead, I bought a Wichita front rest, which is probably every bit as steady. On top of that I've got a Protektor front bag. In the back I've also got a Protektor bag. This is the steadiest setup I've ever had. The Wichita rest which I bought from www.lockstock.com is very nice for the money I think.
