Sierra Bullets

Does anyone shoot the Sierra Pro Hunter line of bullets and if so what kind of performance do you get on deer sized game with them? Thank You!

Outstanding bullet for deer-sized game. It opens well and expends all of its energy inside the animal. For elk, however, I'd try something tougher like the Partition or Bear Claw or A-Frame.

I reloaded some 100gr Pro-Hunter's for a 25-06 a few years ago and my son shot a doe broadside at 50-60 yards and thank god we had snow on the ground that year or we never would of found her! The bullet never expanded on the lung shot and left no blood trail..we followed her hoof tracks and found her about 100 yards or so from were she was shot. They might be a good bullet in some calibers but I will never use them again! Anyone want a box cheap...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I use the Sierra Prohunter in my 300 Win Mag and I have taken two deer with it. The bullets did what they were supposed to do complete pass thru no bullets recovered. The first was at 226 yds and the deer ran about 25 to 30 yds. The second was at about 100 yds and it made just into the woods about 30 yds or so. My load is 72.6 grs of IMR4831, 180gr Sierra ProHunter, Win WLP, Rem brass. OAL 3.560. This load will always group under an inch. The point of impact hasn't changed in 10 yrs. The gun is a Rem 700 BDL.

I far prefer the Hornady interlocks for deer and we'll have to review the crop of bonded bullets coming out this spring for bigger game.
