reloading room ideas?
 

I just bought a house and I got the ok from the boss to convert a 12x17 room in the basement to my gun room. Any ideas on what I should put in the room other than cable tv and a lazy boy.
I am goimg to do reloading also and will need to build a good bench.
Maybe some of you guys have pictures.

You might want to order a set of plans for a reloading bench from the National Reloading Mfgs Assoc. www.reload-nrma.com I considered it myself, but don't feel like waiting until they'd arrive to get started. Too bad they don't have a pdf file available to download. A trip or two to Home Depot and I should be well on my way to building a franken-bench.

If you are putting a reloading/gun room in a basement, plan now to purchase a dehumidifier. Basements are notorious for being damp, especially during the summer months. This can a problem for guns and reloading equipment and not good for stored powder. It will be money well spent.

Russ is right about the moisture ,I put a heater in my reloading room and keep it dry during the winter . We get a lot of rain and it seems to go right through the walls when its unheated . Sounds like you will have a nice size reloading room .

I've got my reloading room on the main floor,boss says its ok.:P
I use a spare antique lowboy dressor as a reloading bench.
added some lumber on the top to mount all my hardware to.the drawers are nice for holding dies, manuals,and cigarrettes(just kidding).
its very stable and is perfect in height,and can be broken down quickly when needed for other tasks.

I used my garage for awhile but it was too cold in the winter. I had 2 spare bedrooms at the time so I said what the heck, and converted one of them to my reloading/hobbie room. Smart move!

Please visit www.waterlooindustries.com for applicable benches. I purchased one from Lowe's and love it. It has plenty of room on top to mount a press, trimmer, powder measure, and still has ample room for a scale, trays, other reloading tools, and room to work.

You can purchase optional drawers and doors to hide the "clutter" below the bench top. There is a bottom storage rack great for storing powder, etc.

One important note - I have a friend who purchased a similar make bench; however, his bench top is not as solid/thick, and the top flexes each type he strokes his press (not a good thing!). Make sure your bench top will be sturdy enough to resist the forces generated while using a reloading press.

A good sturdy reloading bench is a must. If you're handy with tools you can build your own for a lot less than you can buy a ready made bench. Reloading's a lot of fun and you save a ton of money.

How come your room is only 12x17. I went the other way and told the wife that her room could be 12x17 and I would use the rest of the house. Need a place to hang the horns, etc.

jmcd is right, the room is not big enough. It might look and sound big enough now but wait a couple of years. It will look like mine. I could use about 1500 more square feet. Tell the "boss" that you need the family room and maybe the kitchen.
