RE: heaviest bullet for a 7mm-08
I used the Speer 130 grain Hot Core for deer. They worked well but were pretty destructive if you hit the shoulder. I was using them in the 280 though.

RE: heaviest bullet for a 7mm-08
I haven't tried the "heavy weights" (>154Grn) in my 7mm-08. Haven't really seen the need to.
However, both of my 7mm-08's, a REM 700 Mtn LSS and a Rem 7600, shoot the 154 Grn Hornady RN extremely well. I handload and both rifles like the 154 over H414. This is my "Woods" load. Note: Targets @100 Yds except for bottom right which is at 200Yds. Dark squares 1/2", lighter squares 1/4" ![]() ![]() The Mtn LSS likes the 145 Speer HotCor over IMR 4350. Haven't worked up this load for the 7600 yet but definetely intend to. ![]() ![]() firstshot ------------------------------- Make your first shot count! |

The 140 Partition in the 7mm/08 is as close to the perfect whitetail/mule/blacktail rifle as you'll ever get...perfect!!!

RE: heaviest bullet for a 7mm-08
What kind of speed are you getting out of these heavier bullets and the 7mm08? It's hard to find info on manufacturer rounds with the heavier ones so I was just wondering what kind of speed and energy you should be gettin. I know it's not the numbers that kill, just interested.

I'm getting 2,800 FPS with the 145 Grn Speer HotCor's with 47.5 Grn IMR 4350 and 2,847 w/max charge of 48.0 IMR 4350. With the 154 Grn HDY RN I'm getting 2,736 FPS w/47.5 Grn H414. Both out of a 22" barrel. firstshot --------------------------------------- Make your first shot count! |
