info for what velocity for what game?
 

I just took up the sport of skeet and shotshell reloading. I am now loading 1 1/8 oz of #7 1/2 shot using green dot to 1200 fps,is this load also good for dove? I know #5's and 6's are good for phesant,but where do you find the info that tell you what to load to. My reload manual doesn't have it in there. thanks. sj

DG,you are pretty close. I am dropping 20 grains to get the 1200 fps. This pm I moved it up to 22 grains to get 1270 fps. My reloading manual is the lyman shotshell reloader,4th edition.You are right it has a lot of info in,but I haven't found how much to load for various game.where can I find that? thanks. sj

DG I am thinking of going to longshot by hodgon and try it up around 1400 fps and using #6 shot for an all around load and move it to 1 1/4 oz.And keep it aroung 1270 for skeet and dove with #8 and 1 1/8 oz.any one see anything wrong with that? sj

different powders produce different velocities and recoil.I'm reloading 50 ae and 440 corbon rounds.the h110 really kicks at 29 grains,1400-1700 fps.
the h4227 powder puts out around 1300 fps but is much smoother and more accurate in my 50.
my most accurate loads are between 1-2 grains below maximum published charges.
I use hodgdon powder exclusively,they are clean burning,and very accurate and reliable.

You might want to go to Ballistic Products website. I believe it is www.ballisticproducts.com. If that's not it, you can find it easily with a search engine. They have all sorts of books and manuals as well as a wide variety of wads and other components. I have found them to be very helpful when I have a question.
