RE: Favorite powders for .223???
Lately I have been loading IMR3031 with a 50 grXLC Barnes bullet .I had started out just trying to use the powder up and ended up with a pretty accurate load so I will try it for awhile .

RE: Favorite powders for .223???
I shoot at BR shoots, also, and have tried IMR- 4198 ,IMR- 4064,H-335,H-Varget and Win 748.
With the H-335,in 90 degree weather,I shot a 248 out of 250 points ! But once the temp dropped,it fell apart ? I tried H-Varget and it seems more consistant,no matter what the temp is. Mounting Man/in PA. |
RE: Favorite powders for .223???
VV N133, N130, AA2230, IMR4895, H335, BL-C2, H322, & Win748 my favorites are the VV powders. They are clean burning and temperature stable.

RE: Favorite powders for .223???
Mounting Man the reason your gun liked the Varget is because it is from the "extreme" series of powders that Hodgdon has formulated. They're produced specifically to reduce pressure spikes due to temperature variations. Their new Rotumbo will be awesome for big bores as it is their first in the "extreme" line for large capacity cases. Should be out this spring or summer.

RE: Favorite powders for .223???
I've heard all this temp sensitive data about VV powders.....and I won't deny it because I have no data to do so.....I'll continue to load my .223 with BlC-2, H-335, and Win 748. I also keep my ammo in a cooler in the summer months shooting prairie dogs....That's 0ne sweet little cartridge......love it!!!
