.22 Hornet Ballistics?

A friend loaded a wide variety of .22 Hornet for my Ruger Model 77. The most accurate turned out to be 11.1 grains of 4227 behind a 45 grain hollow point. Dime sized groups from the bench at 100 yards. I am really impressed! The intended use of the loadis forcoyote hunting at 125 yards or less.

Can anyone make an educated guess at what I will get in feet per second at 100 yards and the foot pounds of energy at 100 yards?

You should be getting around 2600fps at the muzzlefor IMR 4227 .[you didn't specify Hodgon.]At 100yards you will have around 2150fps and 462ft. lbs. of smack.Harold

Man, that does not make me happy. That is almost the same as the Winchester factory load. I was told by the guy loading for me that I would exceed the factory ballistics.

I NEED MORE P O W E R !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then you need a bigger cartridge. Like the .222 or .223 Remington.....
The only way to know what a certain load will do in a specific rifle is to develop the load in that very gun, using a chronograph during the process.

i have reloaded for the Hornet for a very long time. Killed a lot of coyotes and pigs with the .22 Hornet. If you are hunting coyotes at 125 yards or less that load will do the job. Sometimes if conditions are just right i will push the envelope and take a coyote at 175yards with the Hornet and a 45 grain bullet. If you are calling in coyotes the .22 Hornet is a good economical way to go.

Zap those coyotes.
