RE: Anyone reloading the .300 RUM in Model 700 or 70?
Due to the varying dimensions of available bullets some can be seated much closer to the rifling than others and still fit in the magazine. My own loads have the bullets .070" off the rifling and the rifle averages 1/2" groups.Even among factory rifles the throat lengths seem to vary a fair bit from gun to gun.I have had the best results using reloader 25 with 180gr bullets but have had no luck getting the barnes bullets or combined technology bullets to shoot well in my own guns.

Depends. I went out on a quest over a year ago seeing what the throat lengths was on several 300RUM with my stoney point gage and several different kinds of bullets. Out of 7 that I measured, I got lengths from 3.73" (the best) to 3.88" (the worse) and averaging around 3.8". So to answer your question, nope, I doubt it. I finally got a engineer at remington to admit that they put a tad of freebore for safety reasons (not the reasons Weatherby does it) with reloaders, but the excess like I seen was tooling cycle slop. The longest you will be able to put in that mag is 3.640". You can get awfully close with A-frames and grand slams or other flat tips bullets, but still don't count on it. For a hunting gun, hitting the lands is highly overrated. I have actully found with mine, that shorter depths work the best and crimped. I load my A-Frames 3.55" and crimp.

My best all around load is 165 NBT, 89g of IMR 7828 with 215 primer COL of 3.632. Get around 3200 fps and very good groups. Just want to say have a great holiday to all, and thanks for the input. Nothing beats experience.

Dead Eye, My accuracy load for my .300 Ultra is 86.7g RL-22, 180g Partition Gold "Molly-Free", Fed 215M primers, 3270fps. The "Golds" have a longer shank than the standard Partitions, I load them out to 3.685 for my rifle (max to fit in magazine), which is .025" short of touching the rifling. Under 1MOA out to 300 yards. No report on how well they work on big game, I used my custom .338 with Partition Golds this past season with excellent results on elk.

I seat my 180gn nbt the same length as the factory scirroco loads (I don' t remember the exact lenght) but I crimp them with the Lee Factory Crimp Die. The advertisement claims that it seating near the lands is not important with this crimp. My sendero is getting sub .5" , 3 shot groups at 110 yards with 80gn IMR 4350. I' m new to reloading so needless to say, I' m impressed with these results! I' m necksizing with once fired brass. I tried 250 yards yesterday but the wind was gusting pretty hard (+- 2" groups). Shots fired while the wind was low looked like sub 1" but that' s kinda guessing (verticle deviation was sub 1" on all shots fired). I' ll try again Sunday and will post the results for any who are interested. Damn this round (gun) is accurate!!!

Evening. I load the 180 grain Nosler Partition with 95 grains of H1000. I seat it such that the cartridge overall length is 3.60 inches. Got this out of a Guns and Ammo supplement on handloading a couple years ago before there were wide spread entries in loading manuals. Since then I' ve seen the same dimensions in several on line reloading manuals. I get minute of angle or better accuracy in my 700 BDL at 100 yards.
As noted above different bullets will be seated at different depths.
Regards.
