RE: 264 win mag loads???
140 grain bullet! Any powder that a manuel say should work.My Win.pre 64 264 is a picky eater!I can't remember what powder and weight right off but if you can get a load to shoot well it won't like changes, brass brand, bullet brand, very mild changes in any varible such as seat depth and my whole group goes south! I still have some Winchester bullets that are dual diameter(front was smaller than tail)! The picky nature may have played a part in it's lack of success...the 7mm mag beat it easily! No 2 264's will shoot the same load the same...but I will dig up my recipe if you pm me to remind me! I still like shooting the thing!

My load data for a 264 is a 130 gr Seira Gameking over 61 gr. of H4831, chronoed approx.3000 FPS. Heapbad medicine for deer

I just don't like blanket statements. I've seen plenty of 270's or 30-06 or 7 mags that where finicky. As a matter of fact I have a 270 that will absolutely go to crap if you put anything but 130 grainers down it. Its funny though how some cartridges get reputations while other don't. I've owned 220 swifts and 264 win mags that where easy to load for. About anything I put in them shot well, so I guess its like everything else it depends on the individual rifle.

RE: 264 win mag loads???
Get a copy of Rifles Handloader Feb.2005 issue.
It has a lot of valuble info about reloading for the 264 win mag.
You might be suprised about how the 264 out preforms the 7mm beyond 300 yrds. The 264 needs a 26 inch pipe to really show it's true colors. The 264's bullets also have higher sectional density and higher BC ratings then the 7mmRemof the same grain. Which is what givesstopping power on an animal, and really flat trajectories. In my opinion the 264 is a whole lot more then a little prong horn gun!!! For any doubters you should try somesst bullets in 140gr over 56.4gr's of H4831 to start . I know for a fact that my 264 is a very easy gun to shoot well with because the recoil is very managible. I must say I'm not a real fan of 7mm's, but they do have their place in the hunt world just not mine ,and if people are comparing the the two they better know the facts!!!

Thanks for the info.
Another question.
Here's my set up:
T/C Encore with thumbhole stock.
26" Custom Shop heavy 264 Win Mag barrel.
How about 100 Grain Nosler Ballistic Tips or 100 Grain Nosler Partitions out of my 264 for Deer?
Why 140's only???

RE: 264 win mag loads???
I had excellent results with a Nosler 125 grain Partition and H-4831. Today I think I'd take a look H-1000, CCI #250 primers. I seldom load a cartridge for a particular animal. I load for accuracy and then select the rifle that is suitable for the animal I'm going after. I used my .264 WM for both mule deer and antelope and was happy with the results.

I'm going to play around with some different bullets, all that will handle deer, and which ever is the most accurate out of my 264 will get the starting spot!
