243 Tikka Groups

This winter I was having some accuracy issues with my 243 Tikka. So I dissassembled it and gave it a good cleaning a few weeks back, and hadn't had any time to shoot it since then. Tonite, the wind finally died down a bit so I grabbed my rifle and headed out to my range to shoot.

The top group is the first group I shot. My first 3 bullets went in almost the same hole, and I got a lil cocky. I pulled my next two shots making the 5 shot group 1.092".

The second group, measured .679" once I got my nerves settled a bit.

I was shooting over my ammo box in the prone position.

This is my coyote/varmint load.

60gr Sierra HP
Remington Cases
Fed 210M
43.0gr of Varget
OAL 2.569"

Here is a better picture of my better group. I only shot those two groups, then I went home to work with my new puppy.

Those tikkas shoot great.A young fellow was at the range tuesday with a tikka in 243 that he had just bought and was trying it out with factory core-loc's in 100 gr.He let me shoot a 3-shot group and it shot the factory bullet good.2 went in the same hole and 1 was all most touching.

Yeah, if I woulda quit at 3 shots I woulda had a one holer, and a .2. I usually always shoot 3 shot groups, but I was thinking of selling this rifle, so I was trying to talk myself out of it by seeing what it was truely capable of.I would like to shoot it off a bench sometime when I am truely steady, shooting over my ammo box isn't overly steady! LOL

Rammer

Them Tikka's are good guns, better than some folks give them credit for... I had my Tikka 300 Win Mag out the other a shooten paper and IT was almost that good also... well, truth be know it was that good I should say the nut behind the trigger was almost that good...

Man, that shoots almost as good as a Savage!

Now I need to get someone with a Savage to come prove that to me ;)I don't doubt it one bit. I've been tossing around the idea of buying myself one to play with......Maybe I'll get one in 308 or 7-08.

If you are going to get one in 308,take a look at the 308 varmit. It will shoot. It has the bull barrel but don't weigh much more the the reg T-3.
I carried mine hunting one day this past year and shot one at 270 yds.
I have some savages that will shoot too.:D

Nice groups, really.

Kind of a running joke on here so I was sort of kidding. But I do have 2 Savages that in .308 thatprint some really small groups. One with a 26" benchrest barrel and the other with a 22" hunting (sporter) barrel. They both have identity crises though. Today the BR gun is a .223 and the hunting rifle is a .243.Next week, the hunting rifle will be wearing a 7-08 barrel.

Two actions, three stocks, 7 different barrels. I love the versatility of a Savage. I apologize for the hijack!

RE: 243 Tikka Groups

If you like the tikka I would hold on to it.When I got the 308 varmit, one month before I could have gotten it for $650 out the door,a month later I had to pay $719 + shipping and + tax.I checked the tikka web site and the suggested price was still the same so I figure that the distributors and sellers are the ones going up.I bought a tikka 25/06 before the 308 and the price was inline with the suggested retail.
That group looked pretty good also off theammo box.
This is a group I shot with the 308 tikka tuesday, and for kelbro a group with a savage.;)
