What I'd like to know is what is the twist of the .234rifie? No one has mentioned that..

I am ready to order bullets for my new Savage 234 it has a 1:9.25 twist. Not sure if it would handle say 55 gr. bullets and the other end 100gr. I want a long range chuck /yote load and also one for deer.

Also, if you're shooting a Savage what power and charge are you using w/ the bullet?

I have three tikkas: two white tail hunters,one in 25/06 and the other one in 338 mag ,and one m55 model in 22/250. All my rifles shoot tight groups. But the m55 has the best trigger and shoots the tighest groups. I tell you I would put that rifle against any savage that I have shot provided it doesn't have the accu-trigger...Tikka's are very capable of jagged 1 hole 3 shootgroups from a bench rest with a little work to the trigger. The rest is really up to the person behind the rifle...I know because I have done it and truely sold me on tikkas...But the new savages got a real good set up with their accu-trigger and there is no denighing that they can shoot awsome, but they sure aren't finished like the older Tikkas...

The 9.25 twist in a Savage .243 will shoot anything up to 105 gr just fine. With my 22" sporter barrel, I get the very best accuracy with 70-100gr bullets. The 55s and 105s shoot plenty accurate for 100-200yd shooting but if you do have to reach out and touch something beyond 200, the 70-100gr range bullets would probably be a better choice in that rifle.
