Powder of choice for 270 Win & 130gr bullet

I'm getting ready to help my neighbor work up a load for his 270 and i've never worked with this caliber before. We will be loading the 130gr Sierra Pro Hunter. I would really appreciate it if you guys that load for a 270 using a 130gr bullet would give some imput as to what is your powder of choice or what has worked best for you with this combination? Thank You! Mike

I find that powders like H4831, old H450,and RE22 will enable you to get the highest velocities out of the .270 Win. But in my .270's, I got better accuracy at acceptable hunting velocities when I used IMR 4350 - 55.5 grains for the 130-grain bullet (MV 3000 FPS) and 53.5 grains with the 150 grain Nosler Partiton, MV 2850. This was in two Mannlicher-Schoenauer carbines with 20" barrels-twist 1/9"...... Some people get better accuracy with H4831 and RE22 than I did.

Like Eldeguello, my .270 decided it liked 55.5 gr. IMR 4350 best of all. 130 gr. Sierra, Rem. primer. Great deer load. Good luck...........

Here's another guy who has used IMR4350 for a long time. I shoot 54gr of IMR4350 however. Not quite getting 3K fps but close.

I would like to try out 4831sc but hard to change for no reason.

Im a believer in IMR 4064 I reload for 5 different 270(buds and such) all have had the best luck with it.

Another vote for IMR4350. I use 55 gr with a Nosler Ballistic tip 130 gr.

I just got some H414 I'm gonna try in the .270. Cases are prept, now just need to load them up. The books say H414 is suppose to be pretty good, so we'll see...

Thanksfor the quick responses and feedback.Looks like4350does pretty well for you guys and i have a good supply of it on hand so thats wherei'll begin.Hopefully i'll find a good loadwith itas well but if not i have other powdersi can try. Having not experienced handloading forthe 270 i just needed a good place to startwhen it came to which powder to use and you all provided that.No better place IMO to get information aboutloading a particular caliberthat you've never loaded for than to get it from guys who actually have experience with it. Again Much Thanks! Mike

Always had good luck with H4831SC. The RL22 works well too.

4831 and 4064 have worked well for me so far. Between 55 and 58 gr. of powder works for what I have reloaded so far.
