What powders burn the cleanest for you?

I am new to the .223 reloading in bulk quantities. I will do a lot of shooting with this gun on a Prairie Dog Hunt and do not want to have to clean the rifle between every two or three shots. In an earlier thread I said that I used some BL-C(2) with 69 gr. bullets. That worked fine. I need suggestions for the 55 gr. loads.

I tried H414 today and it is the best so far with 55 Gr. spsx Hornadys. I am going to try some lighter bullets to see what they do. The load with the H414 was .604" for 6 shots at 100 yds. This gun should do better.

Varget is the cleanest w/ my AR's. I shoot the 69 gr #8900 Sierra with it.

If you have to clean more often that every 75 to 100 shots for PD's you may be doing something wrong

Have not reloaded for the 223 yet. Although Varget has been the cleanest powder I have worked with so far. My 204 bore looks great after 40 rounds plus of these 39 gr BK reloads. The ½” 100-yard groups leave the majority of a target clean as well.

IMR4198 is clean and accurate for me. Ball powders seem to fowl the barrel quicker for me.

Wow Savagescout, that suprises me! What primer have you been using if you don't mind my asking?

I stick with CCI BR4, CCI 450's & Rem 7 1/2's which are all fairly hot.

I use winchester primers standard small rifle. I end up running more patches through the gun before it is clean than I do with the 10x and other powders I use with that said I use varget in more guns that I reload for than any other powder except AA5744 for reduced reloads. I use a powder 100% based on accuracy not velocity or how clean it is.

Ill have to try loading up a few more RL 10x loads to verify my results. Although Based on my limited use of RL 10x I found it to be among the worst I have worked with for clean up & accuracy was so-so. Another favorit (best accuracy results & easy clean up has been a bit of a bonus)of mine has been H4198 in the 221 & 223.
