.280 Ackley Improved-- need a load for 115 grain speers???

Guys,

I could use a little hlep from one of you who has or knows of a starting load for 115grain speers in a .280 AI.
I have Nosler's #5 book and it shows reloading for the .280AI but only with 120 grain bal tips.
Can I use those loads and go up a half a grain or what? Two different types of bullets... diff on the pressures?
I have a 26" barrel on a 98 Mauser action. The gun's a shooter, very accurate even during fire forming.
I await your assistance.

I would use the data for the 120 gr BT.

I'll second that. I'd start with the 120gr data and work up.

Hello 358 WM. A bullet that light seems senseless in a 280AI.....what are you using it for? The BC is egregious. OBTW, why are you fireforming with bullets? Prime add 11 grs of Bulleseye, fill to base of neck with cream of wheat, pack with 22 patch, pow.....instant Ackley. Regards, Rick.

Rick,

1) Using the 115 grainer for loooong range coyotes. Got them very cheap, thats why I'm asking about them.

2) I've been getting mixed reviews from guys with much more reloading experience than myself regarding fireforming with bullets vs. COW and a patch. I don't quite understand the exact priciples being sent my way, but something about good pressure vs. the patch being non uniformed resulting in different pressure/forming of the shoulder. I used a box of cheap 120 grain speers and formed the cases. I'm also breaking in the barrel a bit with shoot/clean-- shoot/clean, etc...

Thanks for the replies... much appreciated.
Stew

358WM, I fireform with bullets as well. What can I say? I like to shoot. Two hundred fired-formed case should last a very long time, and I doubt I am seriously wearing out the rifle in making them. At 100 yards, my fireform loads often have one-hole groups. That's just plain fun; I don't care who ya are! :D

I also prefer to fireform with bullets. Gives you an idea how the gun will shoot with various bullets.
