6mm PPC
Does anyone have any experience with this round? Pros and Cons VS. the .243 Win?
Thanks |
RE: 6mm PPC
well the 6mm ppc is an uncommon cartridge to start, 243 is much easier to come by also the 6mm ppc has a muzzle velocity about 500 fps less than a 243 in the same weight projectile. Honestly you would have to really want a 6mm ppc to choose it over a 243. just my 2 cents

RE: 6mm PPC
Well I don't REALLY want the the PPC, but I was looking at Accuracy Systems and theycan build Mini-30's in 6mm PPC, but not the .243. But I do want a 6mm caliber gun. And since I live in California I can't get an AR type rifle, so the Mini is the next best thing.

Yeah I know all about the California legal AR's. I'm going to build one in .223. But I can't get a CA legal .308 size lower. I could do a WSSM, but the upper alone is about $1300. Thats why I was looking at the Mini's.

RE: 6mm PPC
This is interesing concept - as mentioned, the overwhelming use for this caliber is benchrest. I'm not sure you would want to set up a Mini 30 with the kind of chamber normally put in a BR gun. OK, I know you wouldn't want to . . . . But I would suspect you could get "minute of groundhog" accuracy out of a loose chambered 6MM-PPC; even in the sloppy Ruger action.
Although I know there are some highly modified Mini 14's and Mini 30's out there that can shoot fairly well, the design of the weapon is not very condusive to precision shooting. It's about as tight and true as an AK-47. Personally, I wouldn't waste that kind of money on a Ruger urban assault rifle. |
