reloader 25 data 30-06

i was wondering if anybody had experience w/ reloader25 in the 30/06 iread somewhere that aguy was getting 3000 fps with 180s he also said 65000psi sounds really hot also avery compressed load i was thinking if i used a 150 or 165 and reduced italot then worked it up might be realfast loadi can not find any data on rl25 in any of mybook s

Although I have not actually tried it, RL25 seems entirely too slow for the 30/06. Powders around the IMR 4350 burning rate are about ideal.

+1 here. My '06's like IMR4064. I cannot imagine RL25 will deliver those speeds and 65000 cup is dangerous. Most modern actions are designed at 60000 cup max loads. Older actions are limited to 45000 so that should run up a red flag. Regards, Rick.

I cannot find any data for the .30-06 Sprg. using RL-25. Good luck.

The guy is plain lieing to you. The powder is too large. Even at seriously compressed loads, you would not reach much pressure. With a powder like this, its not pressure you got to worry about, its case capacity. And most of the time you can't reach the full potential as far as velocity. I bet with RL25 filled to the brim, you would be lucky to to get a 180gr bullet to go 2700fps.

For instance, with 4350, I am shooting 2750 with 140gr bullet out of my 26" 7mm-08. My load is extremely compressed. I can't get one more grain in their if I tried. No pressure signs whatsoever. I could get better velocity and reach pressure signs with Varget and still not be compressed. But I am getting std dev. of 10fps and sub 0.5moa accuracy with the 4350 load.

Take a look at this page, and it will explain it better. If you see with RL22, a faster powder than RL25, is pretty well compressed, but pressures are lower, and so if velocity, but you can get better performance with RL19

Light bullets and long barrels for a 30-06 are good conditions for RL 25. You probably won't find any data but you can look at heavier bullet data, find RL 25 charges, and work from there. I did this with a long barrelled 280 Rem and it worked out well.

My favorite powders for the 30-06 Spfd. are:

1. 4350
2. 4064
3. 760
4. H-414
5. 4895

As you can see, RL-25 would not a lot slower than my favorites.

It might, indeed, be possible to get 3000 FPS from a 180-grain bullet using RE25 in the '06, IF you could get enough of it into the case and still be able to seat a bullet! But I am not certain that this is possible! You might ask Alliant if data is available for RE 25 in the '06??

I checked the "Alliant Powder Reloaders Guide" 2005, and there is no data using RL-25 for the 30-06 Sprg. I don't think they made a different guide for 2006. Good luck.

What about imr 4320?

You will find lots of data for this old workhorse powder. If you already have a bunch, by all means burn some. But if you are going to go out and buy some, for the same money I wouldrecommend something a tad slower - like IMR 4350.
