Hunter John, no, you're not going to have problems with bullets coming apart at handgun speed.

Ed, that used to be one my favorites. I used Hornady 170's on hogs for a long time and they never failed.

I wish I could remember the name of the video I had back in the mid 80's. The guy shot3rounds eachfrom 223 Rem to 50 BMG @ 50 yards, through one target, through a small stack of twigs 10 yards behind, then through another target 10 yards behind the twigs. Every bullet deflected and or keyholed. I was amazed that a 700 gr bullet deflected from hitting a twig 10 yards behind it.

As for round nose & flat nose bullets not being accurate...horse pooky. I've never shot a target closer than 100 yards with these loads and they're sub moa, some sub .5 moa, just like any other bullet. I routinely shoot out to 400 yardswith these loads and they're just as accurate as spitzters. The only disadvantage is wind resistance past 300 yards.

Round and flat nosed bullets are usually very accurate because they stabilize so easily. People think that weight is the key. It's not, length to diameter ratiois the key. And round / flat nose bullets are shorter than spitzters of the same weight.A long spitzterbullet is harder to stabilize than a round nose bullet of the same weight. Imagine trying to throw a football that's stretched to3 feet long. It would be pretty wobbly. Same effect. Anyway, they're very accurate.

Bottom line: The reason behind using these bullets in your's and my 308 handguns is performance on game. I've had more "pop and drops" on deer and hogswith round / flat nose out of my pistols than with spitzters.

I think I seen that video also... I think it was called deadly weapons or deadly effects of weapons

to Hunter John
there is only one reason why the bullet are being shaped/designed for the
them being used in a 30-30 , in a leaver gun the cartages are stacked end to end ,they dont want a pointed bullet setting in the primer,
accidentally setting off the one top of it. its a safety thing.inyour encore
you can use any bullet of .308 dimensions you wish to use.
one of the pistol barrels i have is a 10 inch 7.62X39 .308 bore ,
thee most accuratebullet i have ever foundis a 125 gr. fnhp designed for the 30-30, even to two hundredyard it will put five in the bottom of a beer can, nothing wrong with that.
why would you want to go to a reduced load? you most likely find a whole new set of accuracy problems and special techniques to do so.tho that can be apart of the fun.

cataway i loaded those 125gr fnhp slugs up with imr4064 for my friends 30-30 and i agree on the accuracy part.we were shooting pencils in half with every shot at 25yrds just horsing arround and i'm not all that great with open sites.anyway about those 30-30 slugs, accuracy plays into the game, not just performance.all you can do is try them out and see if they hit the mark, also you may not get to choose the velocity as well.the gun will decide at what speed it shoots the best and with what bullet and what bullet weight.
