Digital Scales
Does anyone know of a good digital scale that is less than $100? From what research I've done, I might be better going with a balance scale.

RE: Digital Scales
Well at least with balance scales, you can know you are accurate. I have tried about everyone on the market under 150 dollars. And all fell short in some way. The Pact scales were ok for measuring static things like broadheads, and brass, but still had a lag when triclking charges.

RE: Digital Scales
Might try AcuLab scales.I used Acu Lab scales to weigh Liq products where accuracy was less than 1 gram as I recall when calibrated properly.
The weights can cost as much as scale.Try there web site for refurb units.Don't know if you can get one for less than $100 ??? |
RE: Digital Scales
Are most of the balance scales of the same quality, or is their one brand that stands out from the others that I should consider?

RE: Digital Scales
I have the RCBS chargemaster 1500 and it serves as a very expensive powder dump. I use a balance beam to finish them off.

RE: Digital Scales
Thats just sad. They all make such promising claims and in the end a $30 balance scale is just as good.

RE: Digital Scales
I have a wieght calibration kit I got from work when they did away with the machine shops. I am shocked how accurate they can make a balance beam and be so cheap. My RCBS is accurate to the 1/10 grain.

I like my Redding beam scale. Easy to use, pretty fast and accurate.

RE: Digital Scales
Used the same old undampened Redding scale for 35 years. My son bought me a spiffy RCBS Powder Pro electronic scale for Christmas in 2004. The thing is useless: Needs frequent calibration and goes haywire then the heat or AC comes on.Went out and bought a new dampened Redding beam scale that is very accurate.

RE: Digital Scales
I had a Lyman 1000 which is over $100 and it was off by as much as 3 gr over only a couple of weighs. Don't know if it had to do with the electronics in my house or not.

RE: Digital Scales
I still have the RCBS digital scale, but I stopped using it because Id weigh up a charge and then lift it and set it back down and it would always be different. I started using the beam scale that came with my kit (505 i think) and havnt had any problems.

RE: Digital Scales
MOSSY,
Here is how I use mine now. I set the digital scale a few tenths below my desired charge. Run the chargemaster, dump the charge in the balance beam. I am usually a couple tenths off. I take the chargemaster pan, tap the bottom of the dump till a couple granulars come out, dump or shake a couple in the balance pan..(i don't havea trickler).I usually have to do this once maybe twice. Fill the case, reset the pan and hit dispense, seat the bullet and I am back to the beginning. LIke I said...it is a spendy powder dump....but very accurate for a powder dump :) |
