One bullet for 30-06
If you could have just one bullet for a 30-06 for the 48 states deer/elk/moose/black bear what would you choose?
a) 180 Nosler partition
b) 165 TSX/MRX
c) 180 TSX/MRX
d)165 Accubond
e) 180 Accubond
P.S. If a moderator wanted to make this a poll that would be great

RE: One bullet for 30-06
If I had to pick one, I would pick the Nosler. The problem with these bullets is that I believe they were created with the super magnums in mind. The 30-06 is slightlyslower, so I believe long distance(as well as short) expansion could be a problem. I am not knocking the 30-06, it is my second favorite(behind the 45-70). It is difficult to compare a deer and elk load in the 06. For elk I load the 200 grain Sierra Pro Hunter, it is a devastating choice. I also use this bullet in the woods of WV for deer. You do not have to chase them around the hill, you just go pick them up. Overkill-Yes, but I hate to drag a deer up out of the hollow.
The new super bullets and super magnums are great. The problem is that they do not make a poor shooter better(it makes them worse). And they only have a limited increase for an expert shooter, because most of them already know the rifles they have.

A Sierra Pro hunter flat base or Sierra Game king whichever groups the best. You start talking Elk and Moose.....well you should probably look at a 180gr bullet minimum. For Deer the 150's/165's are fine. The beauty of the 30'06 is it's huge range of hunting bullets for the size game you are hunting. There is no perfect bullet for deer sized animals that will also be perfect for 1/2 ton critters. I would recommend tailoring the '06 to your needs......no other non-belted magnum does it better. NoKnees,
If I were starting today, I'd sure give the Hornady Interbond and the Nosler Accubond a good bunch of test. I'd never had much use for a Hornady bullet, the jackets always seemed to come apart too easily. That is not the case with the Interbond. Using wet newspapers, I got deep penetration, great expansion, weight retention that ran over 85% and accuracy was very good. I ended up using the Nosler Accubond simply because the accuracy was slightly better. Had the accuracy been better with the interbond, I wouldn't have hesitated to use it. The accuracy difference of five five shot groups was .018". The poorest accuracy was .674"
One of the penetration test was to fire bullets into wet newspapers at 200 yards, 100 yards, seventy-five yards forty yards and twenty feet. Bullets all ecpanded to better than twice diameter to over .075". Unless I intended to do a lot of elk hunting, I'd just go with the 150 grain bullets.
