Barnes Varminator for 223
VERY new to the reloading world and will start reloading for my 223. I purchased the V-Max bullets and the Barnes Varminator and looking for load data for the Barns bullets without purchasing another reloading book. I looked on the Barns site and couldn't find anything, is this proprietary data? I thought I would be able to find this everywhere online.

RE: Barnes Varminator for 223
A great place to find load data is Reloadernest.com. There you should be able to find load data for the weight of bullet you are using. If you want load data for the make/weight of bullet that you bought you will need to buy one of their reloading books, but just find the weight and load data should be the same for most types of bullets. RE: Barnes Varminator for 223
Have you thought about one of these:
http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=360676 It has data from all the major manufacturers for that caliber. I usually use Win. 748 and IMR 4320 in most of my .223 loads. For Barnes bullets, my book has between 24.0 and 28.0 grains of 748. It doesn't list 4320. |
RE: Barnes Varminator for 223
I load my .223 with Hodgdon BL-C(2), it works awesome. Just look on there site for loading data, or when you buy a pound of it, there are loads on the label.

Barnes Varminator Loading Data
I contacted Barnes regarding the loading data for the 50g Varminator and here is what they said.
Do not use the Varmint Grenade data as it would be to weak and that I should use any lead core data supplied by Hodgdon. I found the loading data for the SPR SP in the Hodgdon loading book that listed BL-C (2) with 26 to 28 grains. I contacted Barnes again (Ryan Farr) for reassurance who told me the BL-C (2) would make an excellent load using between 26 and 28 gr of powder. I will be making this load this weekend since the Varminator loading data is the same for any lead core bullet. |
