What's the closest

You have ever loaded a bullet to the rifleling...

Tried it all ways. All the way up to it. .5" away from it. Just start at min load. Builds pressure quick sometime. And you might not get optimal velocity doing it.

That’s a heck of a jump at the starting gate 1/2” away...

I have a Ruger No.1 in 22-250 that has a deep enough throat that I cannot get the bullet to touch the rifling.
Seems at one time Ruger did that quite often

I normally try to set them .125 when using recommended charges. When using P+ loads becareful, the pressures climb quickly. I would set them about .250.

I had no doubt on your comment and saying that it’s Weatherby puts it all together but to have Hairtrigger & HighDesertWolf say that the Ruger #1 have this problem is something else especially being a single shot...

Yes, certainly! I used to load .32/40 cast bullet TARGET ammo to where the bullet was actually forced into the rifling when the breech was closed (a single-shot rifle) to the depth of the first driving band on the bullet. but such rounds, once loaded into the gun, MUST be fired because if you try to extract them, the bullet is left sticking in the bore and the powder gets dumped into the action......
