Primers - which ones?

I'm finally getting into reloading (mostly RCBS equipment) and would like suggestions on primers for the following rounds I will be reloading:

.22-250, 6mm Remington, .270 Winchester, and 7mm Remington magnum.

Thanks.

RE: Primers - which ones?

I usually stick with cci on all my loading , that includes rifle and pistol!

Small Rifle, Large Rifle, Magnum? Which one will best suit the calibers listed above.

Thanks.

I stick with federals. Why, just what was available when I started. For the 270 and 260, I would use 210's, and for 7mmremmag, 215M, and small rifle for the 22-250. I use some CCI's for pistols. And sometimes experiement with rems cause they are usually less explosive.

I use Federal Gold Match Primers. Good luck.

I've always used CCI for everything, but that's only b/c it's what my dad always used. He's been into reloading 20+ years. Only magnum primers we use are pistol .44 mag & hot 357s, but I'm not even sure how useful they are. I've beentrying to get a chrono so I'll be able to measure differences --

I have had my best accuracy results over the years using Federal 210 LR primers. Many others have had equally satisfactory results with Rem 9-1/2's, CCI's, and even Winchester primers. For the cartridges you listed, I would NOT use Magnum primers, not even for the 7mm Rem Mag., unless you were using a very slow ball powder in it, like H870 or AA8700.....

bigcountry "and small rifle for the 22-250."

Every .22/250 case I've ever seen uses a Large Rifle size (.210") primer, not a Small Rifle primer........

ALL the cartridges you listed use size .210" (LR diametrer) primers. I don't even use magnums in the 7mm REM., unless for slow ball powders. I use the Federal 215 Magnum primer in the .416 Rigby....

sorry eld, your right. I have never loaded for a 22-250 so I shouldn't have opened my mouth. I use 205 feds for my 204ruger, and assumed. I guess I am guilty of giving advise of soemthing I knew nothing about.

but the rest I stand by.

I like Federal primers as well. If I have a gun that hits light on the primer, I use Remington. They seem to be a little softer.

RE: Primers - which ones?

I have been using CCI benchrest primers in all my rifle calibers and I'm very happy with the groups I've been getting. Well not in my 45-70,I still use CCI200's in it. I'm not sure just how much difference the primers make as far as the brand goes. They all must have similar compisitions in the priming mixture. The biggest difference could be in the quality control, and that's why I use CCI as I've been doing for 30 something years.
