243 WSSM

Is anyone loading this round? If so what powders and bullets have you tried and what seems to work best. I guess I will soon have one to try out. I thought about the 6MM Remington but this caliber should be a little more versitile. I see that Midway has brass for it pretty cheap.

OK guys ENOUGH!!!!:DI gave into the not having a model 70 before they are gone sydrom. I wen't over to Scheels on their 10 month free layaway and put one away. They had a Model 70 Coyote in 25 WSSM but they wanted 700 bucks for that one. It was new but had a cpuple pretty good dings in the stock. Its a Brown Laminated stock. They had several 325 WSM's for 499.00. But my shoulder would never stand up to that. They had one 270 WSM for 399.00 that was new, but the rest of the 270 and 300 WSMs were 529. I don't know why the one was cheaper.

Yes the 270 WSM Savage is the next one to be picked up. More Later. Some pork chops just arived.:D

Understood:D. The more I thought about the 6MM which I really like, the more I thought about the WSSM. It should be the equal of the 6MM Remington plus a little. I quess there is no big difference but now I will have tried all the factory 6MM's except the 240 Weatherby. I checked on components last night at Midway before I headed to Scheels. This will be it for a good while.( Really this time) I have all the layaways I can handle. Besides, the storm clouds are gathering if you know what I mean.;)

I understand completely. Which is why I am still single I think........I figured a new 4 wheeler 2 weeks ago, and a new bow last nite, none of which would be possible with a significant other. Plus my '67 F100 mud bogging truck I'm just finishing building.......Gotta love new toys!:D

My other half has been pretty darn supportive of my habits. Shes a farm girl too and likes to hunt and fish. She thinks though that Scheels will be buying from me pretty soon. I have enough fishing stuff to outfit two states worth of fishermen.

I have a 6mm and a 243Wssm. Ive had plenty of luck with 90grn BTs in the 6mm but its in an old 788 which I dont like very much so I had to get something new in that great caliber size,

Ive loaded some 85 grn Nos Part with 45 grns of Rel19. Its shooting <1" groups so far so good. I havent had time to try much else out yet other then factory stuff.

Be careful the 45grns is above max so work up to it. I just received an email from Vitha Vuri on loads they finally worked up with their powder if you want some info on that. I have IMR and Hogdons load info. Also have loads from Hornadywith Alliants powders let me know if you need any info.

Hope your happy w/ the MOd 70. I have the black and blue and love the gun. Perfect balance, litewt. handy, $379w/Simmons 3-9 Bull**** scope already attached.

HOWEVER!!! I've had constant feed problems with it. I hope you don't find this problem w/yours.

If your roll your own, i'd start by going down. 2 reasons: I know the damage it does to whitetails and also have heard about accuracy probs from some.
I don't have the acc probs, but don't shoot match type stuff either.

I'm shooting 100 power pts @ about 2 1/2" @ 100yds, 3 shot group
That's about as still sa I could hold it anyway

good luck
Brad

RE: 243 WSSM

I have an A-bolt and have had no probs with feeding. Ive got the bullets loaded out almost as far as possible and still fit in theclip and its always smooth. This has been with Nos parts. and I have loaded but not shot some 85grn Sierra hps and they also work fine with no probs. The original factory ammo I used was the 100grn power pts and they worked fine. I bought them just to have something to shoot waiting for my dies and for mt brass.

Im not sure if theres much difference between the A-bolt and Winchester but Ive had no issues.
