44 mag light plinking load
Anybody know a good light load for a 44 mag to be shot in a marlin rifle.
Can I use 44 special cases. Thanks James |
RE: 44 mag light plinking load
been a while but if memory serves it's around 7 grains Unique and a 240 LSWC

RE: 44 mag light plinking load
I use 10gr of Unique and 240gr laser cast semi wadcutters. I tried 8gr but it was real dirty. I got better accuracy with 10gr. You can go up to 12gr of Unique with a laser cast. Should feed fine thru your marlin. I have been using this load for years. Thats the reason I still use it. If I was you, I would try HP38 or titegroup. Close to unique but not as dirty.

RE: 44 mag light plinking load
To be on the safe side I would not use .44 S&W Special cases with .44 Rem. Mag. data.

RE: 44 mag light plinking load
Why handloader. That would defeat the purpose of a low pressure load? It would raise pressure? These loads are tried and true target loads.

RE: 44 mag light plinking load
a little different question here. what would be a good plinkingload for a .433 rond ball in 44 mag. cases with bullseye powder ?

RE: 44 mag light plinking load
I have a Speer #7 or #8 reloading manual that is on loan to a friend and I think their is data for the round ball load in it . If my memory serves me as well as I think the load is 4 grs of bulleseye, I'm quiet certain it will be safe. No recoil and very low report, lotta fun.

Bigcountry:
Sorry I did not respond to you earler I just saw the post last night. I E-mailed the Sierra Bullet Techs, and asked them some questions about using .44 S&W Special brass in a .44 Rem. Mag. The questions are after the Sierra's Tech's answers: Hi Frederick, No, the 44 Special case doesn't grow. The bullet must bridge that 1/8" gap. DO NOT USE 44 MAG LOADS IN 44 SPECIAL CASES ... EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES !! PERIOD !!! Those are good questions but heed the warning. It is very important. Have a good weekend Rich > Hi Rich: The .44 Rem. Mag. case is 1/8" longer than the .44 S&W Special case. When the .44 S&W Special case is fired in a .44 Rem. Mag. revolver does the case grow or fire form a whole 1\8" longer? If the case does grow 1/8", is the brass going to become very thin? If the case does become thin, is it safe to use that .44 S&W Special case in a 44 Rem. Mag. revolver using .44 Rem. Mag. data? I feel it would not be a safe practice using .44 Rem. Mag. data under the above situation. Under any circumstances is it safe to use .44 Rem. Mag. data in a .44 Rem. Mag. Revolver using.44 S&W Special brass? Thanks. Sincerely, Frederick Romero IT'S ALWAYS BETTER TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE. ;););) |
RE: 44 mag light plinking load
Actually, I made the mistake. I read your first post as "to use 44spl cases with rem mag data".
I don't waste my money spl cases. I only get mag cases. That way I can shoot unique plinking loads or heavy 110 loads. |
RE: 44 mag light plinking load
Just buy light Cowboy loads for plinking.

Rebel, wrong page brother. We don't pull the lever on our ammo.

RE: 44 mag light plinking load
I thought it would around 4 grains, it take 3 grains for a light 38 spl target load and six grains for a regular cast bullet in a 44 mag. so im gonna try 4-5 grains. maybe sometime ill make a trick load with 2 balls in the case, i think theres enough room.

RE: 44 mag light plinking load
Tengrains of tightgroup behind a 240gr swc makes a nice plinking load. Its got enough snort so you still know your shooting a magnum but not a wrist killer. For a really pleasant load try my cowboy load, six grains of tightgroup behind a 200gr rnfp.
