Chamber diminsions for 30-06 in Mauser 98 v. A303
Can anyone tell me how much diff. the chamber length between the Mauser 98 versus a Springfield A303. Im doing some reloading and plan to use my reloads in bother my A303 and my dads Mauser 98 and I want to make sure they fit but are not sitting 2 feet off the lands.

Mauser M98's were chambered for the 8X57mm Mauser round, not the .30/'06. If you have one with a .30/'06 barrel, it's anyone's guess what its' chamber dimensions might be!!

If you had a 98 and '03 both in 30-06 or any other rifles for that matter, you could expect the chambers to be different. The chamber length is standardized for 30-06 as it is for any other cartridge, but small variations exist between any 2 rifles. If you fulllength resize your brass it doesn't make any difference as long as the headspace is isn't dangerously loose. If you neck size your brass, you need to use the brass in the same rifle every time.
Don't worry about bullet seating depth. In miitary rifles, you will probably find a long throat that you cannot seat the bullets to the lands anyway. Just seat the bullets so they function in the magazine.
Another thing to be aware of is that standard length 30-06 rounds probably won't be able to be loaded into the magazine of a mauser 98 chambered in 30-06 useing a stripper clip unless a releif cut has been made in the reciver ring to allow for the the extra long cartridge. Alot of South American countries adopted Mauser 98 rifles for their defense and had them rebarreled to 30-06 to take advantage of the huge amount of surplus ammo given to them by the US. These have a relief cut in the receiver ring and are marked in big characters ".30" on the receiver ring.
