45-70 and elk?

Anyone have a tried and true elk load for my marlin 1895SS 45-70?

53 grains of 3031 and the 405 grain remington jacketed bullet. All you might ask of a 45-70 this load will do for you.

rickT300 is right on with his recommendation. This is Elmer Keith's "classic" the .45/70, and it will kill ANYTHING on the North American continent, very handily, thank you!! The .45/70 can be loaded hotter than this, but there is no need to do so!!

Keep yore powder dry!!

yes it will take anything on the continent, and might be only slightly light for only 2 animals in the entire world, of course those are the cape buffalo and the elephant, though it could probably take those as well, but it would be slightly light
