.30-30 reloads
I just gave my daughtermy 1st deer gun,a Savage model 340 in.30-30.... I know that no production rounds in this calibre is available in anything other than round nose bullets...in mainly 2 weights. I was wondering, if it would be practical to handload a better/faster round for this gun, since it's magazine fed(instead of tube-fed). I could go lower than the 150 Gr available today, which should drastically improve ballistics for this cartridge. I honestly feel, that the .30-30 cal can perform better than the standard shells offered today....what's your opinion.

RE: .30-30 reloads
You can certainly improve the ballistics of the 30-30 by reloading, but remember it is what it is. The case of a 30-30 is pretty thin so you can't hotrod them too much. I worked up a load for my Marlin using a 125 grain hollowpoint, but you might try a 125 grain BT since you can use pointed bullets.

RE: .30-30 reloads
You can use any.308 Cal bullet for reloading since you don't have the tubular magazine to deal with and many bullet and powder manufacturers have loads for many different bullet weight/powder combinations.
I also load 125 gr hollow-points for my Win. 94 and they work very well. |
RE: .30-30 reloads
125 was what I was thinkin',too.... Thanks Guys!
Glad to see others have reloaded this rnd...and I don't expect it to become an .o6... but I know that cartridge will do better. |
